Mass flight disruption warning ahead of 48-hour Munich airport strike

A 48-hour strike Munich airport will cause a “significant impact” on flights.

Workers at several companies at the German hub plan to walk out tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday.

An estimated 1,600 flights are expected to be affected over the two days.

Munich is a key hub for Lufthansa, which warned of “significant delays and cancellations” to its group airlines on both days.

The company said: “To ensure the planning security of our travellers, the Lufthansa Group Airlines are offering all guests with flights to or from Munich in the period from 27-28 February a free rebooking to an earlier flight departing February 25-26 or a later flight from Saturday, March 1. Alternatively, a free cancellation of your ticket is possible.

The Verdi trade union has called on employees of several companies at Munich airport to go on the two-day strike.

An airport statement said: “Significant impacts on traffic operations are to be expected. Passengers are therefore advised to check the current flight status with their airline before traveling to the airport.”

The strike comes as the union demands improved working conditions for workers in Germany’s public sector.
