Norwegian Air tops 2m passengers for June

Norwegian Air carried just over two million passengers in June, which equals the highest number of passengers since July 2022.

The low-cost airline said booking numbers for the summer are “positive”, as is the outlook for air travel demand in August and September.

Geir Karlsen, chief executive of Norwegian, said: “I am pleased to see that we have welcomed the highest number of passengers on our planes so far this year.

“We are looking forward to meeting an even larger number of passengers onboard our planes in July, the busiest travel month of the year.”

The June passenger total was up 5% from June 2022 and the load factor was 86%.

Capacity in June was at the highest so far this year and will continue to increase in July.

Karlsen added: “Although our operations were impacted by air traffic control issues, particularly in Denmark and France, our punctuality, when measured by arriving within 60 minutes of our scheduled time, was satisfactory.

“This demonstrates our ability to perform under challenging circumstances. Demand for summer air travel has been strong, but some seats are still available for any last-minute sun seekers.”

• Norwegian has also agreed with WF Holding AS to acquire Widerøe, a major regional carrier in Norway.

It said the agreement will provide customers with a broader route network and more choices.

Norwegian will acquire the carrier for NOK 1.125 billion (£86.45 million) and Widerøe will continue to exist as a separate company with its own brand, organisation and headquarters in Bodø.
