Play makes a move for more staff with gender-neutral message

Icelandic budget carrier Play is gearing up for summer 2023 expansion with a recruitment drive.

The airline is advertising positions for 150 cabin crew and 55 pilots but all must be based in Iceland.

Play is promoting the fact that its crew wear gender-neutral clothing, can show tattoos and piercings at work and wear their hair whatever shade they choose.

The airline said it “encourages all crew to bring their authentic selves to work”.

The airline is building its hub and spoke network of services between Europe and the US via Reykjavik.

Play plans to expand its fleet of six Airbus A321neo and A320neo aircraft to ten from next spring.

This summer the airline employed 150 flights attendants and 70 pilots.

Chief executive Birgir Jónsson said: “This is the right time to begin hiring for our growth next summer. I am truly excited to welcome new members to our team and we are proud to be able to provide all these new jobs.”
