TravelSuperMarket reports surge in late summer bookings

Holidaymakers have booked almost a quarter (21%) more trips to depart the first weekend of the autumn school half-term break (October 21-23) compared to last year, TravelSupermaket data reveals.

The online price comparison website has also seen a 47% year-on-year increase in searches and bookings for late summer sun holidays departing across September and October compared to the same period in 2022.

The highest-booked destinations for this period are Tenerife, Cyprus, Dalaman, Costa de Sol and Lanzarote.

Head of holidays and deals Chris Webber said: “It’s likely the spike in bookings for October half term is a result of cheaper prices at this time of year – and the bad summer weather in the UK during the summer holidays pushing up demand for autumn sun.

“But while we’ve seen price rises in line with inflation for many destinations, there has been a year-on-year dip in prices for destinations such as Dubai, where prices on average have dipped by over a third, Hurghada, where prices are 11% below last year’s average, Rhodes has an 8% drop, Dalaman -6% and the Canary Islands, which on average have dipped by 5%.”
