Tui has flown 3,500 Covid tests out to Lapland to provide its customers with the kits to complete their pre-departure screening before returning to the UK.
The UK government announced on Saturday that all arrivals must take a pre-departure test from Tuesday, in response to concerns over the Omicron variant.
Tui Airways flight TOM911P left Birmingham this morning specifically to supply pre-departure tests for guests in Lapland.
There are currently 2,500 TUI guests, mostly families, in Lapland who flew out before the announcement and are due to come home after December 7.
A further 900 customers flew out today who will also be provided free pre-departure Covid tests.
Guests departing for Lapland on December 8 and onwards will be reminded to purchase their tests prior to departure.
Tui UK’s commercial and business development director Richard Sofer said: “Families plan all year for their magical trips to Lapland with dreams of meeting Santa, husky sleighing and feeding the reindeer.
“It’s our job to ensure their dreams are a reality and our Christmas elves, as ever, are on hand to help make sure they experience the magical wonders of Lapland.”
