Visa-free travel for UK passport holders to Vietnam is being extended threefold from 15 to 45 days.
Under changes from August 15, British travellers can apply for an e-visa and stay for up to 90 days, up from the previous maximum of 30 days.
The extended e-visa will also be valid for multiple entries, instead of single entry.
The relaxation of entry rules was welcomed by Vietnam Airlines, which is raising frequency from Heathrow to a daily Boeing 787 Dreamliner service from five flights a week to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City from October 29.
A spokesperson said: “The upcoming changes in visa-free travel and e-visas will significantly enhance the flexibility of travel for British visitors to Vietnam and other countries in the diverse region of Southeast Asia.
“Multi-destination British travellers will be able to enter Vietnam, travel on to other nations, and return if they miss our beautiful country.”
The carrier provides connections to other major cities in Vietnam, Asia and Australia. Return fares from London to Ho Chi Minh City start at £751.
The changes came as the Foreign Office issued an alert over Typhoon Talim forecast to make landfall in the northern region of Vietnam from July 18-19.
The updated travel advice said: “Affected areas include but are not limited to Ha Long Bay and Quang Ninh and Hai Phong provinces. Heavy rain can be expected in Lang Son, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces.
“You should follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local news reports for the latest developments.”
