Wizz Air saw passenger numbers rise by 61% year-on-year in July with the start of summer peak holiday travel.
The Hungarian budget airline carried 4.7 million passengers last month with a load factor up by 11.2 percentage points over the same month in 2021 to 89.7%.
The performance figures followed plans by Gulf offshoot Wizz Air Abu Dhabi to serve the Maldives and Kuwait, increasing its network to 34 destinations within a five-hour flight time radius.
The carrier also announced routes from Romania, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Lithuania and Italy, adding to its winter 2022-23 schedule.
Several new year-round and winter routes from Luton and Gatwick were also confirmed from October.
