Adventure Tours UK exceeds carbon reduction target

Domestic operator Adventure Tours UK has exceeded its goal of reducing its carbon intensity value over the past financial year.

The active holiday specialist measures carbon emissions across its business, from accommodation, transport and food to the overheads of remote-working employees and business travel.

Its total carbon footprint is shared across the number of guests carried throughout the year to provide a carbon intensity figure on a per guest basis.

With a target of 6% reduction on the previous year’s carbon intensity value, Adventure Tours UK surpassed its goal of 91kg CO2e, achieving an “incredibly” low carbon intensity of 77kg CO2e per guest in the latest full financial year.

Claire Copeman, co-founder, said: “To have exceeded our carbon reduction target by such a significant amount is testament to the dedication of our whole team.

“We take sustainability seriously, working hard each day across the entire business to ensure carbon reduction is at the forefront of our decision-making, from new tour development, to accommodation contracting and trade event attendance.”

Adventure Tours UK has been working with carbon footprint consultancy ecollective since 2020.

Charlie Cotton, founder of ecollective, said: “Adventure Tours UK are an example to others when it comes to low carbon travel.

“The difference in emissions between different types of holidays can be huge but it is often unknown, this is the big challenge and why measurement and transparent reporting is the single most important step any business can take.

“I am delighted to not only see Adventure Tours UK average carbon footprint per person be so low, but to see this reduced even further over the last year.”

Three years ago, Adventure Tours UK committed to reach Net Zero by 2030 and recently become B Corp certified, showing it met rigorous social and environmental standards.
