Passengers travelling with Carnival Cruise Line have been warned they may be confined to their cabin or removed from the ship if they are caught with illegal substances as the line steps up its security measures.
Speaking in a video to consumers, the line’s president, Christine Duffy, informed passengers there will be additional security staff on board all sailings to enforce Carnival Cruise Line’s no tolerance drug policy.
The line has also begun using sniffer dogs at ports and implemented a curfew for passengers aged 17 and under, meaning they must be in their cabin by 1am unless they are accompanied by an adult in their travelling party aged 21 or older.

“My colleagues and I have been reviewing and updating security procedures, providing additional training to our crew and enhancing guest communications to support the behaviours we expect on our ships,” Duffy said.
“All of our ships have had more security personnel added and we’ve introduced narcotic sniffing dogs at home ports to screen luggage on both a routine and random basis.
“Illegal drugs, including marijuana, on cruise ships and in cruise terminals are prohibited.
“All guests must now acknowledge and commit to our code of conduct during the check-in process, so whether it’s smoking, illegal substances or disruptive behaviour, there are consequences in place for those who do not comply, including fines, being confined to your cabin or being removed from the ship and banned from sailing in the future.”
