EasyJet holidays unveils package ‘cheaper than staying in UK’

EasyJet Holidays has launched an ‘Escape the UK’ holiday to Egypt which it claims is cheaper than staying in the UK this winter.

The 28-day all-inclusive package is £227 cheaper per person than average UK household bills would be for the same period, the operator said.

The holiday costs £650 per person which includes accommodation at the five-star Stella Gardens resort in Hurghada, plus flights from Gatwick or Bristol on January 3 or from Manchester or Luton on January 4.

The operator totted up the average cost for a Brit to pay for rent, travel and food, plus bills for energy, water, TV and Wi-Fi over 28 days and calculated the total is £877.

The operator said the hotel features a gym, free Wi-Fi and TV streaming services – and claimed the long stay is “ideally suited to those that can work remotely”.

It added: “With no fuel bills, petrol costs or grocery bills to pay, the holiday comes out £227 cheaper per person than staying in the UK according to ONS data scrutinised by a personal finance expert.”

The finance expert, Lynn Beattie, said: “While escaping abroad does not make all our financial commitments disappear, it’s startling to know that like-for-like, it’s cheaper to buy an all-inclusive holiday than stay in the UK this winter.

“For consumers who could viably sublet/Airbnb their homes and work abroad, the new package deal by easyJet holidays poses a very attractive offer.”

Matt Callaghan, easyJet holidays’ customer and operations director, added: “With a growing number of Brits now searching online to see if they can escape abroad this winter, we knew we needed to try to provide consumers with a solution.

“We looked at everything an easyJet holidays package deal has to offer, and have been able to confirm that yes, comparably, our new 28-day winter escape is cheaper than staying at home this year.”

Other hotels in Hurghada are also feature in the ‘Escape the UK’ promotion, as well as properties in winter-sun destinations elsewhere, including Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey.
