Hays’ Essex branches to collect leftover foreign currency for charity

Hays Travel branches across Essex are asking clients to donate leftover foreign currency after they have been on holiday for charity.

The agency’s 23 stores in the county, all of which have foreign exchange desks, are collecting coins or notes from customers to give to The Hays Travel Foundation, which works with organisations nationwide to help young people reach their potential.

The fundraising is being rolled out initially at Hays’ Essex stores with a view to being launched in other parts of the country later this year.

Last year the foundation handed out more than £13,500 to organisations across Essex and London, including The Happy and Healthy Trust, Teens Unite Fighting Cancer, Blooming Blossoms Trust, The Community Hub, and Youth Space.

Hays Travel head of sales operations and community initiatives Toni Gibson, who oversees the Foundation, said: “The Hays Travel Foundation works hard to support young people across our network to reach their potential in the arts, sports, health, education, and poverty.

“I am delighted that our branches within the Essex area will be participating in this new initiative.

“Many holidaymakers bring back leftover coins and small notes from their holidays which cannot be converted back into sterling. Donating these to the foundation will enable us to help many more young people.”
