A fledgling operator called Pure Breaks is urging independent agents who specialise in sustainable travel to apply for a place on its Mauritius fam trip.
Established as part of Working Travel Group, the ethical operator has been developing a programme over the past six months to offer tailor-made, upmarket long-haul holidays.
Its week-long fam trip will depart October 9 to showcase Mauritius as a sustainable destination, including health and safety protocols in hotels.
The Indian Ocean island nation opened up to international travellers on July 15, with vaccinated holidaymakers in “resort bubbles”.
From October 1, vaccinated travellers can enter without restrictions and travel around the island.
Mauritius is currently on the British government’s amber list.
Darren Taylor, chief operations officer at Pure Breaks, said his mother is from Mauritius, so he has a “passionate stance” on supporting the destination’s tourism.
“Our trip will highlight what the hotel groups have done to play their part in responsible tourism,” he said.
“We are seeking independent travel agencies looking for a partnership with a long-haul sustainable tour operator.”
Applicants need to tell Pure Breaks about their bookings to Mauritius in 2018 and 2019 and what they do to operate a sustainable travel business.
Taylor said Pure Breaks has a staff of 22 and has a focus on the Indian Ocean and Africa because of his experience. It also features central and South America.
As well as third-party agents, the company sells via 15 home-based ‘digital agents’ working with its sister brand, Holiday Executives brand.
Taylor said the operator hopes to run further educational trips in the next six-12 months to showcase its destinations and protocols in resorts.
Pure Breaks also runs a charity which operates community development projects for young people in five countries.
Last month, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) praised the role of UK travel agents, as the destination reopened to international holidaymakers.
