A-Rosa River Cruises has outlined the next steps in a bid to Europe’s most sustainable river cruise operator.
A team of experts has been drafted in to help create a “long-term and measurable” sustainability strategy.
Details are due to be unveiled by the middle of 2023, taking the company up to 2030 and beyond.
A-Rosa has already completed a comprehensive assessment of its current sustainability position and the external factors that need to be considered, which includes stakeholder mapping and environmental analysis.
The latest development follows the introduction of the company’s first hybrid-powered vessel A-Rosa Sena.
German organisations Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), are collaborating on the sustainability project.
A-Rosa sustainability manager Sandra Wendland said: “This project clearly demonstrates just how serious we are about creating a sustainable future.
“We are committed to ensuring we play our part in preserving some of Europe’s most stunning destinations for future generations.
“However, we recognise our approach needs to be holistic, as we have a responsibility not only towards our destinations, but also to our guests and employees.”
She added: “Working with the prestigious Fraunhofer Institute and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, both now and in the future, will ensure we are accountable, transparent and continually evolving.
“A-Rosa is driven by innovation, and through this extensive sustainability project we are setting new standards for the entire river cruise industry. A-Rosa Sena, our ground-breaking hybrid powered ship, is just the start.”
