Club Med has welcomed a relaxation of Covid rules in France covering non-jabbed children.
The all-inclusive operator hopes the change from March 14 will trigger a “boom” in last minute family ski bookings up to and including Easter.
Club Med UK and Northern Europe managing director Estelle Giraudeau said: “We’re delighted at the recent announcement that from 14th March, France is suspending the health pass, meaning that unvaccinated children and teens will no longer need to test daily.
“We know that this has been a huge roadblock for many families this winter ski season and a number of them will be eager to make last-minute bookings now the restrictions have been eased.”
Club Med claimed a “very strong start” to the year with record-breaking sales weeks that saw revenue figures up 245% compared to the same period in pre-pandemic in 2019.
Giraudeau added: “With families being our core audience, we expect a boom in sales throughout March and April, particularly around the Easter break as customers look to take advantage of the relaxed restrictions.
“Many of our ski resorts are almost at capacity for the remainder of the season, so we encourage people looking to get on the slopes to act quickly to ensure they don’t miss out.”
A vaccine pass – currently required to access a wide range of venues including bars, restaurants, tourist sites and ski lifts – will also be suspended.
French prime minister Jean Castex Rules announced on Thursday that the requirement for people to show the Covid-19 vaccine passport to access venues will be lifted as the country gradually eases Covid health protocols amid signs the virus is receding.
Face masks will also no longer be needed indoors from March 14, with the exception of public transport.
Castex told the French TF1 TV channel: “After a fifth wave of Covid on an unprecedented scale, the health situation has been improving significantly for several weeks
“Under these conditions, and while scientific models do not foresee any change in this favourable trajectory in the coming weeks, we can today announce new measures.”
