Destination DC (DDC), the destination marketing organisation for Washington, DC, has updated its training platform available to travel agents.
The ‘Washington, DC, Special Agent Academy’ currently offers three core modules, with additional modules to be added by the end of the year.
By completing missions, participants will become ‘Special Agents’ and gain access to discounts and support as well as the chance to win prizes.

Destination DC president and chief executive Elliott L. Ferguson, II, said: “The knowledge gained through the Special Agent Academy will not only enhance the skills of those in the travel and hospitality sectors but also enrich the overall visitor experience in Washington, DC.”
The training is available on a new Learning Management System platform called LearnUpon, described by Destination DC as “notable for its ease of use”.
English is the only language currently available, but the modules will eventually be translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, French and German.
The modules accessible at present are ‘Mission Information’, ‘Mission 3M’s: Monuments, Memorials and Museums’ and ‘Mission There’s Only 1 DC’.
The modules set to be added by the end of the year are ‘Sports & Festivals’, ‘Group Tour’, ‘Capital Region USA’ and ‘MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions)’.
Ferguson said: “We know there’s Only One Washington, DC, and we want to share that message with consumers and hospitality professionals.
“The training tools will help us enhance the knowledge, image and perception of Washington, DC, as we focus on growing DC’s global visitor market share and set our city apart.”
He added: “Our city is filled with extraordinary arts, culture, culinary delights and accommodations, and we’re excited to share them with the world.”
