Eighth Viking ocean ship named on world cruise

The eighth ship in Viking’s ocean-going fleet has been named while on a world cruise.

There ceremony for Viking Neptune was held in Los Angeles before the vessel sailed for Honolulu as part of a 138-day circumnavigation between Fort Lauderdale and London.

Viking Neptune is equipped with a small hydrogen fuel system to power on board operations.

The company is using it as a test to determine how hydrogen fuel could be used at a larger scale in future new builds.

A ninth 930-passenger sister ship, Viking Saturn, is due to enter service in April.

Former NASA astronaut Nicole Scott acted as godmother in the naming of Viking Neptune.

Viking chairman Torstein Hagen (pictured) said: “Today is a proud day for the entire Viking family as we name our newest ocean ship in Los Angeles, the home of Viking’s US office for more than 20 years.”
