Erna Low marks 90th anniversary with ski expansion

Specialist ski operator Erna Low is expanding in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Canada this winter as it marks 90 years in business.

New accommodation includes more than 30 new self-catering chalets in France; three hotels in both Bansko, Bulgaria and Kitzbuhel in Austria; a hotel with apartments in Mayrhofen, Austria; a residence and hotel in Cervinia, Italy and partnerships with firms such s Interhome

The company’s founder died 2002 at the age of 92 and the brand was acquired in 2019 by Nuco Travel Group, based in Manchester.

Erna Low is one of five brands in the group, catering to students, families, friendship groups and festivals, taking more than 30,000 people skiing each year.

Erna Low managing director Jane Bolton said: “I’ve been at Erna Low for half my lifetime so if you cut me in half I would have Erna Low written down the middle like you would with a stick of rock. 

“I love the history of the company and the pioneering spirit of Miss Low herself is an inspiration to me.”

Low formed the company after placed an advert in the Morning Post in 1932 seeking to earn money from her passion for skiing and became a pioneer of the package holiday, heading the operator for 60 years.
