Extinction Rebellion protest prevents Advantage agent cruise from Amsterdam call

An Extinction Rebellion protest will prevent a cruise hosting 200 Advantage Travel Partnership agents from calling into Amsterdam today (Friday).

Ambassador Cruise Line ship Ambience will instead dock overnight at Ijmuiden, which is about a one-hour drive from the city of Amsterdam.

The change to the three-night Amsterdam city break itinerary has been made in the latest demonstration by environmental campaigners against cruise ships docking in the centre of the city.

Advantage is holding its Latitude cruise conference on board the ship.

The line said: “Ambassador Cruise Line has been advised by our port agents in Amsterdam that Extinction Rebellion are planning to mount protests on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 October that could prevent Ambience from entering the locks for her passage to the city’s cruise terminal during the Amsterdam City Break itinerary.”

The change in port was being made as a “precautionary measure” and in consultation with Advantage, the company added.

“The safety, security and comfort of all our guests, crew and partners is paramount,” Ambassador said, adding that free transfers into Amsterdam were being offered and shore excursions would continue, allowing for the additional transfer time into the city.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and would like to thank Ambience guests for their understanding and our partners at The Advantage Travel Partnership for their support following this change to the itinerary,” Ambassador added.
