Great Rail Journeys introduces luxury India rail tour

Great Rail Journeys is marking its 50th anniversary this year by introducing a tour including the Maharajahs’ Express, India’s answer to the Venice-Simplon Orient Express.

The six-night rail journey is part of a 16-day tour across Delhi, Amritsar and Shimla with prices leading in at £10,995 per person based on a September 2024 departure.

Touted as India’s most expensive train, the Maharajahs’ Express includes double or twin-bed cabins with en-suite private facilities, WiFi, LCD TV, air-conditioning and five-star hotel-style amenities.

The train departs from and returns to Delhi with stops to visit Jaipur, Agra, the Taj Mahal and Varanasi.

The operator has claimed a 182% rise in bookings to India in the last three months.
