More than 400 of Hays Travel shops will close on May 6 to allow staff to watch the coronation of King Charles.
The UK’s largest independent travel agency is developing plans for community activities linked to the coronation, with more details to be shared when they are finalised.
Head of retail Paula Barrett said: “When we discussed it, the decision to close our shops for His Majesty’s coronation on Saturday 6 May was unanimous.
“The teams in our Hays Travel shops are very connected to their local communities and we know they will enjoy working together on developing plans for window displays and other activities.”
Company owner and chair Dame Irene Hays said: “We know the excitement is building for His Majesty the King’s coronation and we want to encourage all our staff to have the chance to enjoy the build-up and watch the historic ceremony on the day.
“We will be encouraging the teams in our shops to collaborate with their local communities, and we know that our divisions working at home, as well as the staff at our headquarters in Sunderland, will want to get involved too. We can’t wait to see what they come up with.”
