British holidaymakers feel the weather and cheap flights are more important than whether a destination has low Covid-19 rates or not when choosing where to take a holiday.
According to a survey taken by 2,000 UK consumers last month, carried out on behalf of direct debit travel card provider Currensea, 45% of those polled said the weather was the most critical factor when deciding on a holiday destination.
Green list status (44%); cheap flights (42%) and a good exchange rate (33%) were also listed high up.
However, just 23% gave low Covid-19 rates in a destination as the most important factor, meaning it ranked ninth on the list.
Currensea argued that this demonstrated increasing confidence in the UK’s current Covid-19 response.
Other factors listed included local culture (27%); a short flight (25%); a cheap country (25%); and a country’s proximity to natural beauty (24%).
James Lynn, co-founder of Currensea, said: “As a travel industry business, we are delighted that growing confidence in the UK government’s Covid-19 response means that the public are feeling more comfortable to travel abroad.”
