New Carnival Corp president lays out ambitions for company

Carnival Corp’s new president hailed the work of his predecessor as he outlined his ambitions for the world’s largest cruise company after taking up the reins.

Josh Weinstein replaced Arnold Donald as president and chief executive of the line last month, as well as taking on the role of chief climate officer.

In his first UK trade press interview, Weinstein said Donald had enjoyed an “amazing” career that spanned almost 40 years, both at Carnival Corporation and prior to joining the company.

Donald held a number of senior leaderships positions across several industries, including 23 years at agrichemical and biotech firm Monsanto.

Donald became vice-chair of Carnival Corp and a member of the board of directors last month following Weinstein’s promotion.

Weinstein said: “I cannot pretend to even want to attempt to follow in his footsteps when it comes to being so awesome.

“I’m probably going to be more inwardly focused.”

Looking ahead, he added: “I think there are a lot of good things that we can still accomplish, just by improving various areas across the whole corporation, across every single brand.”

Weinstein said he would “be spending time” with each of the nine Carnival brand leaders to “understand what they need” and how he can support their growth.

“Our brand presidents, they are the face of their brands, they have direct relationships with the trade and they’re awesome at it,” he added. “I want to support them.”

He also called Carnival Corp “a family”, adding: “A lot of the folks who work here were working here before I got to Carnival Corporation 20 years ago.”
