Three out of five adults in Scotland plan to take at least one holiday this year, with just over one third planning an overseas holiday, according to new research.
A ‘Scotland’s Viewpoint’ survey of 1,000 respondents in mid-January found 59% intending to take a holiday, with one in five (20%) already having booked a break (20%).
The proportion was down on survey results pre-Covid when up to 80% planned a holiday. But of those planning a break, 59% (or 35% of the total) said they plan an overseas holiday.
Spain was overwhelmingly the most popular overseas destination, chosen by 26% of holidaymakers, followed by the US (15%), France and Greece (8% each), Italy (6%) and Turkey (5%). However, there was significant variation on choice of destination by age. While at least 30% of 18-44-year-olds would choose Spain, only 18% of 45-64-year-olds would do so although Spain remained the top overseas destination choice for all age groups.
July to August was the most popular time for a holiday – chosen by 45% of Scots and 55% of families. May-June was selected by 40% and Easter by 27%
Scotland’s Viewpoint is a regular new online survey conducted by research firm 56degreesinsight. The first survey was on January 14-17.
