Tokyo to host first UK trade event since pre-pandemic next year

The Tokyo metropolitan government is to showcase Japan’s capital city to travel agents and tour operators at a promotional event in London next year.

The free event will be held at the Royal Lancaster London hotel on February 1, 2023, and is the first official B2B Tokyo event to be held in the UK since 2019.

Agents and tour operators can meet representatives from 15 different suppliers between 10am and 5pm.

Between 12.30pm and 1.15pm, there will be an agent seminar focusing on the city’s recent news, an introduction to the best nature attractions in Tokyo and the legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

All travel restrictions to Japan were lifted on October 11.

Next year, there will be a string of new hotel openings from Aman Resorts, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts and Edition Hotels.

Several new attractions such as a Harry Potter Studio, Jurassic World Exhibition and a new subterranean space for TeamLab’s immersive art experiences will also open.

Flight capacity is set to return to pre-Covid levels in 2023, with Japan Airlines resuming its double daily service between London and Tokyo from February 12.

Currently, the carrier operated 11 flights each week but this will increase early next year to 14 flights per week.

ANA resumed its daily London to Tokyo flights on October 30 and British Airways restarted its daily Tokyo service after a year-long break earlier this month.
