Uniworld boss to raise ‘vital’ funds for cancer charity with bike ride

Uniworld’s UK boss Chris Townson will cycle 60 miles from Manchester to Blackpool this weekend in aid of a cancer charity currently supporting his wife.

Townson paid tribute to The Christie Charitable Fund for the “support and dedication” it had shown his wife Emma and admitted it had been “inspiring to see first-hand the operation underway there”.

Emma was diagnosed with breast cancer in March, and is one of 55,000 women in the UK diagnosed each year.

Townson said: “It’s early days for us, and Emma is responding well to treatment, but it’s obviously been a rollercoaster since she was first diagnosed.

“We have been so lucky to have the most amazing support and dedication of the team at The Christie.

“They give phenomenal care to families like us that are navigating this scary journey, as well as undertaking world-class research to try to limit the effects of this terrible disease.”

Explaining why he chose to cycle to Blackpool this Sunday (July 10) to raise money, he said: “I wanted to show our gratitude and raise vital funds.

“It all came about quite quickly, so I’ve hardly trained and had to find myself a second-hand bike. I’m not sure I’m ready for it, but it’ll be worth it.”

He added: “I’m so grateful to everyone – including our travel industry partners – that have been generous enough to sponsor us.”
