Work starts on third American Cruise Lines catamaran

Work has begun on building a third Coastal Cat vessel for American Cruise Lines.

American Liberty is due to enter service in May 2024, joins sister ships American Eagle and American Glory, which are due to begin sailing next year.

The 105-passenger vessels are designed to run US domestic cruise itineraries.

The ships’ catamaran hull allows for a wide activity platform at the stern, equipped with kayaks and a large tender.

They are part of a project announced in January to build 12 small ships.

American Cruise Lines has grown substantially since the pandemic, leading a resurgence of the US river cruise sector.

The company has more than doubled its fleet in the past five years.

A total of 17 small ships and riverboats will be operating more than 50 itineraries in 35 states in 2023.
