Expedia is collaborating with ethical travel management company Key Travel to create ‘carbon-neutral’ hotel stays.
Under the scheme, customers who book their through Expedia Partner Solutions, Key Travel and EPS will pay the monetary amount of the carbon offset to Cool Effect – a San Francisco based non-profit organisation which supports projects that reduce carbon emissions.
Cool Effect will invest the funds in more than 20,000 verified carbon reduction hotel projects around the world.
The scheme aims to meet growing demand among business travellers for more sustainable travel options, while furthering efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Expedia Partner Solutions global senior vice president and general manager Alfonso Paredes said: “We know that sustainable travel options are important to offer customers. This innovation makes it simple for customers to make that choice.
“We are excited to be playing a direct role in offering carbon neutral hotel bookings and in doing so contributing to the development of carbon reduction projects.”
Key Travel chief executive Saad Hammad added: “This latest innovation is an exciting and important benefit for our not-for-profit customers, as it allows them to mitigate their carbon impact at no additional cost to them and enables them to travel sustainably.”
