Industry veteran recruited to lead Wings Global Travel expansion

Business travel veteran Gary Povey has joined Wings Global Travel as chief operating officer to lead expansion of the travel management company.

He oversaw the growth strategy at Reed & Mackay as executive vice president of global sales, seeing the business more than double in four years.

Povey’s three decades in travel include roles at American Express Global Travel, Omega World Travel, Expedia-owned Traveldoo and InterContinental Hotels Group.

London-based Wings Global Travel specialises in business travel for investment banking, professional services, energy, marine and industrial clients.

Povey said: “Wings has built a highly successful business by focusing on wholly owned operations wherever it does business, which has enabled it to maintain consistently high standards of service and a loyal client base.

“Wings also understands the importance of blending high tech with high touch service, which will be crucial as we go forward.

“My role will be to build on these foundations to identify the top- and bottom-line strategies for accelerated growth.”

Chief executive Tony Sofianos added: “Gary brings nearly three decades of industry experience to his new role.

“We share the same vision for Wings and the same appreciation of the challenges facing the industry, including the need to harness technology, stay focused on people and drive sustainability.”

Founded in 1992, Wings has 20 wholly owned and managed operations in 16 countries, employing more than 450 people.
