Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings boss Harry Sommer has outlined ambitions to “triple the size of the company” amid efforts to grow the cruise market.
During a dinner with travel agents in Venice on Tuesday, Sommer looked forward to the launch of new Prima class ship Norwegian Aqua in spring 2025 and also highlighted the number of new vessels on order across the NCLH brands.
President and chief executive Sommer said: “We have 13 ships on order. You’ve got a partner you can grow with and be side by side with.”
He added: “We’re committed with our trade partners to grow the industry.
“As an industry, cruising represents 2% of vacations worldwide.
“We think the potential for growth is unlimited. We can triple the size of the company and get to a whopping 4% of the market – because obviously we’re not the whole market – and still have so many future years ahead of us.”
Sommer was speaking on the eve of a shipyard visit designed to allow agents to see progress on Norwegian Aqua, the company’s first Prima Plus class ship.
“The future is so incredibly bright,” he said.
