Travel Counsellors outlines sustainable conference pledge

Travel Counsellors is asking a record 1,600 delegates to commit to a sustainability pledge ahead of its conference next week.

Homeworkers, partners, support team colleagues and more than 300 suppliers will attend the Global Annual Conference from November 11 to 13 at the ACC Liverpool.

The firm said it will be the first time in three years the annual conference has been held due to the pandemic.

It has committed to making the three-day event its first sustainable conference, asking attendees to be “all-in to make a positive difference”.

Delegates are being asked to avoid single-use plastics, help make the event carbon neutral and create zero waste at the event.

The company will not provide any single-use plastics and instead use smart sustainable packaging brands – Vegware and eGreen.

All waste produced will be either reused, recycled, composted or sent to energy recovery.

The event’s carbon footprint will be measured throughout the conference with Travel Counsellors pledging to offset its output to global sustainable projects.

Jim Eastwood, global sales director, said: “We are excited to all be getting together again after a three-year hiatus and we look forward to giving all our Travel Counsellors, colleagues, partners and suppliers a very warm welcome.

“We have a record number of attendees this year including 850 Travel Counsellors and 300 suppliers and other delegates that we work closely with.

“In an industry that was on its knees, travel is back and we are more ready than ever to redefine what personal means in travel.”

He added that Travel Counsellors believed responsible travel was a “force for good”.

“Now that travel is back, it’s our duty to make sure that we operate in a responsible way and that includes at our annual global conference,” he said.

“Our pledge supports this and is just one of the ways we are focusing our sustainable efforts as a business, working with our community to educate and provide our customers with more sustainable travel choices.”
