‘Unacceptable’ rent hike forces travel agency’s closure

An independent travel agency has been forced to close after facing a 45% hike in its property rent.

Oundle Travel in Northamptonshire has shut “with immediate effect”.

Director Paula Cockcroft blamed “unforeseen circumstances” surrounding a new lease which led to an “unacceptable” 45% annual rent rise.

Writing on the company’s website, she said: “I have taken the decision to close Oundle Travel with immediate affect.

“I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has loyally supported my business over the years.

“However, after a career of 41 years in the industry I have decided to take this opportunity to retire.”

She pledged to continue to deal with existing bookings and referred potential customers to a former colleague who will be taking on the company’s clients.
