Youth and adventure agency Kilroy has created a range of slow travel group tours for solo holidaymakers called Tripmates 23-31.
The backpacking-style tours aim to avoid the “usual tourist traps” and take clients off the beaten path to “immerse themselves into a country and its local culture”.
The brand opened its first UK store in Bristol last September, with the aim of filling the gap left by STA Travel, which ceased trading in August 2020.
Established in Denmark in 1991, the youth and student travel agency operates in eight markets across the Nordics, Benelux and, most recently, Bristol.

There are several Tripmates tours available, ranging from 11 to 18 days, in destinations across Europe and Asia.
The experiences on offer are “highly challenging or expensive” for travellers to try to do by themselves, added the agency.
Activities include learning jungle survival in Borneo; meditation and trekking in Nepal; hiking in the Balkans; and freediving in Indonesia.
Søren Sattrup, concepts development director at Kilroy International, said: “Our Tripmates tours bring together young adventurers who crave epic experiences and meaningful connections.
“By creating tours specifically for like-minded travellers in the same age range, we’ve eliminated the fear of just scraping the touristy surface and travelling with much older individuals to reshape the somewhat negative perspective of group trips as a whole.
“With Kilroy Tripmates, you’ll explore the world alongside peers who understand your perspective, energy and desire for adventure.”
