Giant rabbit owner accepts ‘five-figure’ United Airlines settlement

A “substantial settlement” has been paid by United Airlines to the British owner of a prize giant rabbit that died in its care.

Annette Edwards, 65, from Stoulton, Worcestershire, is understood to have accepted a five-figure sum after the rabbit, Simon, died at Chicago O’Hare airport, en route from London to a new home in Kansas.

A source told The Sun: “There was some sort of mistake and he was locked inside a freezer overnight.”

Edwards has bred two of the world’s largest rabbits, including Darius, (4ft 4in), the record-holder and father of Simon.

United declined to confirm the size of the payout.

But the airline said: “We were saddened by the loss of Simon and have worked with Annette Edwards to reach a satisfactory resolution.”

United faced criticism last month when security guards dragged a passenger off an overbooked US flight in Chicago.
