Insight Vacations expands Oberammergau programme

Insight Vacations has created a range of itineraries for customers to visit Oberammergau for the 2020 Passion Play.

The Oberammergau Passion Play is performed only once every 10 years, and all actors involved come from the southern German village and must either have been born there or have lived there for at least 20 years.

The tradition is traced back to 1634, and the 2020 performance will be the 42nd in the village.

Insight Vacations is offering five different Oberammergau itineraries with departures from May to September. Prices start from £2,525 for the 11-day Best of Germany with Oberammergau.

Chief executive Ulla Hefel Böhler said: “Oberammergau is a subject very close to my heart as I was personally involved in researching and planning our product offering and securing the tickets for 2020.

“Back in 2010, as director of European operations for TTC, the operational handling of Oberammergau for all TTC brands also fell under my remit and being a native speaker of German came in handy quite a few times!”

She added: “The most successful agents would have already started talking about Oberammergau over the last couple of years and have collected leads of individuals and group leaders which they are busy converting now.

“Anyone active in the faith-based travel market of course will be highly successful here as well. It goes without saying that the Passion Play also lends itself to groups – either on brochure departures or custom groups – as well as to individuals.”

Böhler also explained why Insight had decided to include Italy in its itineraries.

“Italy has become such an important region for Insight – our guests just love it – and we felt that experiences like the Vatican museums and Assisi would connect extremely well with the Passion Play,” she said.
