Comment: Merry Christmas and a prosperous peaks

Travel Weekly’s Lucy Huxley says hopes are high for a positive start to 2025

As another year draws to a close, business owners and directors will be carrying out final checks on 2025 budgets to ensure they are as well-placed as possible to hit the new year running.

In recent weeks we reported on the rise in significance of the Black Friday period for stimulating bookings, but the traditional peaks are still a focal point for most.

With economic pressures remaining for many and the political landscape at home and overseas continually shifting, it seems likely that we’ll see an extended and flattened peak period in 2025 rather than the spectacular January boom of the post-pandemic turns of year.

But with spending data and consumer analysis continuing to suggest holidays remain a priority for consumers, there is still a sense of optimism for another strong first quarter.

At Travel Weekly, we’re also taking stock of the past 12 months and looking forward to continuing to inform, inspire, support and connect the travel trade in 2025.

We’re currently putting the final touches on what is set to be a spectacular Globe Travel Awards in January, with tens of thousands of agent votes being counted to confirm our winners.

We will continue to bring you the best news, analysis and features over the festive period on travelweekly.co.uk and our social channels, before we’re back with our first 9am email newsletter of the year on January 2 and our first magazine on January 3. Until then, everyone at Travel Weekly joins me in wishing you and your teams a happy and healthy Christmas and new year.
