Ryanair publishes employee salary levels amid pay and conditions dispute

Budget carrier Ryanair has gone on the offensive in a dispute with pilots and cabin crew by posting details of their salaries on its website.

The airline is facing strikes this week as staff demand contractors are given the same employment rights as its full time employees.

They are also demanding the staff are employed on the basis of legislation in the country in which they operate in rather than Irish law.

Irish pilots staged a third 24-hour strike over working conditions forcing the carrier to cancel 16 departures, affecting 2,500 passengers.

The pay details of staff posted in the media section on Ryanair’s website reveal pilots earn between £169,000 and £195,000 year and cabin crew up to £36,000.

Cabin crew in Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Italy are set to strike today and Thursday.

Ryanair said it was forced to cancel 600 flights as result, affecting 100,000 passengers.

Ryanair says since its aircraft fly under the Irish flag and most of its employees work on board they should be covered by Irish law.

Unions dismissed a warning that Ryanair will cut jobs if crews continue to stage strikes.

The president of Spain’s Sitcpla cabin crew union, Monique Duthiers Sparre, said she did not believe Ryanair would scale back its flights in Spain where it generates 20% of its revenues.

“Sincerely, it is a threat because that is Ryanair’s style but that does not frighten us at all,” she said.
