Hopes of avoiding post-Brexit flight disruption raised

Aviation industry bodies have welcomed suggestions of no flight disruption in a no-deal Brexit scenario.

The European Commission published guidance confirming that flights between the UK and EU would continue in the event of no agreement being reached on Britain’s exit from the bloc next March.

The announcement came ahead of prime minister Theresa May facing a likely hostile House of Commons today over the draft Brexit deal reached with the EU.

Tim Alderslade, chief executive of Airlines UK, and Karen Dee, chief executive of the Airport Operators Association, said: “We welcome that the European Commission has joined the UK government in providing further reassurance to passengers and businesses that flights will continue whatever happens over the coming weeks.

“That said, a comprehensive bilateral air services agreement between the UK and EU remains the best way to protect market access post-Brexit and is clearly in the interests of both sides.”
