Newmarket moves into solo travel market

Newmarket Holidays is bringing out its first brochure of escorted tours exclusively for solo travellers.

The move follows the addition of a further 1,000 single occupancy hotel rooms to the operator’s traditional tour programme for 2020 – bringing the number to almost 10,000 – and is in response to increasing demand from customers who want to travel on their own.

The new ‘Exclusively for Solo Travellers’ 50-page brochure includes 45 new holidays and features departures from September 2020 to April 2022, with durations from four days to Belfast through to 18 days, on the Kerala & India’s Beautiful South tour.

The solos range, which were soft-launched online ahead of the brochure launch in November, offers 25 short-haul; 14 long-haul and six Christmas 2020 tours. All tours include a sole occupancy room, usually with a twin or double bed, a dedicated tour manager, welcome or farewell get-togethers, excursions, meals, flights from a range of regional airports, and access to a new online community forum. There are no single supplement charges.

Niel Alobaidi, chief executive, said: “This is massive growth area and we need to be there for people who want to travel on their own.

“This is data-led; we can clearly see that we were missing out without this specific product.

“We have seen growth in demand for single occupancy rooms and we have massively increased our capacity for single rooms on existing tours for this.”

The operator has also changed its website to make it easier for solo travellers to search for holidays for one person and get the correct price.
