Aito appoints Discover Adventure advisor Chris Rowles as chairman

The Specialist Travel Association (Aito) has announced Chris Rowles as its new chairman after a vote which has seen Derek Moore step down after 14 years.

Rowles, adviser to Aito tour operator Discover Adventure, has been voted in as chairman after five years as treasurer. Rowles previously worked as at Serenity Holidays for 25 years, 15 years of which he was managing director.

He said Aito had two immediate pressing issues to contend with; coronavirus and the climate change debate. “Aito can be instrumental for sharing best practice,” he said.

Moore has become deputy chairman and Stephen Brook, co-owner of Ciceroni Travel, has become the new treasurer, replacing Rowles who was previously treasurer.

Other changes were also announced at Aito’s annual general meeting in London.

Three members have joined the Aito Council: Neil Sealy, of Exsus; Daniele Broccoli, of Typically Holidays; and John Telfer, of Explore, who has rejoined after several years. Three members have left the council: Sam Clark, of Experience Travel Group, Kathy Cook, of Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, and James Westrip, of Africa Collection.

Moore said: “Council wants a fresh face but doesn’t want to lose my expertise. Chris and I will work closely together as a team.”
