Travel industry leaders from around the world are meeting today for an inaugural event focusing on crisis management in the sector.
The International Travel Crisis Management Summit takes place in London, and is organised by Travel Weekly’s parent company Jacobs Media Group.
The event is designed to showcase best practice within the industry, and discuss the development of a practical framework to improve collaboration between the private and public sectors.
Speakers will include Taleb Rifai, secretary general of the UNWTO, David Scowsill, president and chief executive of the WTTC, and Isabel Hill, director of the National Travel and Tourism Office within the United States Department of Commerce.
Clive Jacobs, chairman of Jacobs Media Group, said: “In an age of 24/7 communications highly driven by social media and against a backdrop of increasing global political and economic uncertainty, the challenges that face our industry grow more complex and unpredictable every day.
“I believe it is now essential for our industry to take a global view and work collaboratively to meet and tackle those challenges head on.”
He added: “I am confident that our first ITCMS in London – and future iterations around the world – will become the byword for excellence in the field of crisis management in travel and tourism, and provide the crucible upon which a truly global standard for crisis response can be developed and be effective.”
