The number of British tourists visiting Brazil rose by almost 18% in the first half of the year.
The attractions of culture, weather, and beach and sun saw numbers hit 81,200 against 69,000 in the same period in 2023.
Research by Brazil’s tourism office Embratur found that 42% of British tourists look for culture, 38% look for weather and 31% are after beach sun holidays in the country.
Gastronomy (22%), nature (20%), Brazilian people (16%) and business (3%) were among the other reasons.
British Airways is capitalising on the rising interest by increasing frequencies between Heathrow and Sao Paulo from daily to 10 weekly flights from October 29. Seat capacity will rise by 28% compared to last winter.
Currently operating by latest generation Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, the three additional weekly flights will be operated by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners
All BA flights to the Brazilian city will operate from Heathrow Terminal 5 from October 27.
BA is also increasing capacity by 22% between Heathrow, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires from that date using A350-1000s.
Brazil tourism minister Celso Sabino said: “In 2023, we received a total of 5.9 million international tourists and in the first seven months of this year, we have already registered four million.
“This indicates a real possibility of reaching a new record of at least seven million international visitors to various Brazilian cities, one of the federal government’s main goals regarding Brazilian tourism.”
