Random tests for Covid-19 will be carried out on travellers to Chile under revised entry requirements.
The change was highlighted in revised Foreign Office travel advice.
The South American country has also imposed additional mandatory entry requirements on passengers arriving from China.
The Chilean government introduced three Covid alert levels in April 2022, with Level 1 less severe and Level 3 most severe. The country is currently on alert Level 1.
Updated Foreign Office travels advice said: “Some people, chosen at random, will be required to take Covid tests when entering the country.
“If you refuse or if the result is positive, you will have to complete a mandatory 5-day quarantine at a government sanitary residence.”
The change is in addition to the need to provide a vaccination certificate and proof of a negative PCR test taken 48 hours prior to arrival in the South American country.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office added: “Proof of travel insurance is no longer required. However, insurance coverage for Covid-related issues is highly recommended for the duration of your stay in Chile.”
