Travel Weekly and Abta team up to promote careers in sector

Travel Weekly is to bring back its prospectus-style publication and website Take Off in Travel as the industry continues to face major recruitment challenges.

The 2022 edition of Take Off will be produced in association with long-standing partner Abta and with the support of the Future You Foundation and will be launched at an event focusing on the challenges of recruitment, retention and development this autumn.

Take Off was established as an essential annual guide for students and young people prior to the pandemic, and will once again be packed with articles, information and case studies to showcase the vast array of opportunities on offer in travel and related fields.

It will be distributed to colleges and universities in print and digital format, with the website available as a free resource for the entire travel industry to use in promotions and recruitment activity.

Travel brands will also have the chance to run Company Showcase advertorial features to highlight their commitment to development of staff from new starters through to management.

Lucy Huxley, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly Group, said: “Take Off in Travel was created 10 years ago as we repeatedly heard of the need to showcase the travel industry as a compelling and rewarding career choice to young people and their parents.

“The publication was inevitably put on hold during the pandemic, but we are delighted to be able to bring it back in 2022 with Abta’s continued support as we look to help the industry attract and retain its future workforce.”

Mark Tanzer, chief executive of Abta, said: “Abta has long recognised the importance of attracting people to work in the fascinating and rewarding travel sector, and has supported Travel Weekly’s Take Off in Travel since it was first published in 2012.

“It is the only career guide of its kind for the travel industry in the UK and is even more important now as travel rebuilds after the pandemic, so Abta is very happy to be involved as one of the ways it helps its members and the wider industry in this area.

“It is important to showcase the wide range of exciting opportunities in our sector to those thinking of joining the industry, particularly at a time when travel is competing against other sectors. Take Off in Travel will be shared with careers advisors, Abta members, Abta partners and their wider network.”
