Spain and Greek Islands are the most popular destinations for Britons looking for late summer sun, according to price comparison site MoneySuperMarket.com.
Analysis of customer visits for the period before August 8, following the latest traffic light list announcement on August 4, show there was a 31% increase in visitors comparing the cost of travel insurance versus the period between July 29 and August 1.
Around 85% of enquiries were for August departures and 13% were for trips leaving in September and beyond.
Spain (33.4%) and Greek Islands (14.9%) were the top two destinations for visitors to MoneySuperMarket’s site, with France (6.5%), Croatia (5.7%) and Portugal (4.5%) also ranking high.
Nearly two-thirds – 61% – of enquiries about annual policies were related to trips to Europe.
Helen Chambers, travel insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket, said: “It is great to see an easing in the restrictions; the demand and desire for holidays this summer is clearly there.
“Our advice is always to make sure you take out travel insurance as soon as you book your trip – whether it is for a break here in the UK or abroad.”
