New BAchief makes move towards axing ethnic tails
Change of tone: the designs could all be replaced by 2005BRITISHAirways is set to scrap its controversial ethnic tailfins as exclusively revealed in Travel Weekly on April 13.
A spokesman for BA confirmed new chief executive Rod Eddington is looking at the tail designs as part of an overall assessment of the airline.
It is believed he will demand that ethnic designs be replaced with red, white and blue colours when aircraft are due for repainting in 18 months.
The entire fleet should be painted in the Union Flag colours by 2005.
BA originally planned to paint half the fleet in red, white and blue and half in ethnic designs.
Eddington said he would also look at compulsory redundancies if enough people were not found for voluntary severance. The carrier has pledged to reduce capacity by 12% and is looking at between 2,000 to 10,000 job cuts across the board.
