Brymon Airways, the British Airways subsidiary, has set up the first self-service check-in point for passengers with hand-luggage at Bristol International Airport. Passengers can use their BA Executive Club card or credit card and can choose their seat on-screen.
n travelink innovation
Tour operator system supplier Travelink has launched a new Internet-based booking system that allows companies to pay agents’ commission on-line. Travelink claims its new system will improve reservation speeds and cut costs, eventually replacing viewdata.
n carrier axes route
ScotAirways has axed its double daily Norwich-Edinburgh route. It is believed the carrier needs to concentrate resources on building up new services out of Scotland. The route is the second Norwich service dropped by ScotAirways as it cut flights to Manchester in February.
n alliance rumours
British Airways and KLM have refused to comment on reports they are poised to form a global alliance. Analysts believe KLM will turn to BA after the Dutch carrier’s partnership with Alitalia collapsed last month. The UK carrier needs a stronger presence in Europe to combat Star Alliance airlines and KLM would give it an extensive European and global network.
n merger plans
The Granada Group is to merge with hospitality giant the Compass Group and later de-merge their combined hospitality and media operations. Granada’s hotel division is to become part of new firm Compass Hospitality.
