Ski operator puts freezeon capacity
CAPACITY has been frozen for Neilson’s ski programme as the operator admitted low-cost airlines are affecting sales.Launching the operator’s main 2000/01 brochure, JMC deputy managing director Terry Williamson said time-conscious skiers are taking three and four night breaks – which are not offered by operators – and using the no-frills services to the traditional ski gateways of Lyon and Geneva.
“We offer tailor-made options to North America but need to be more flexible in Europe,” said Williamson. Shorter breaks are expected to feature from next year.
Williamson predicted an unspectacular 2000/01 season which is currently showing a 15% downturn on 1999/2000.
North America was resurgent but Italy and Andorra are both struggling, he added.
Sweden has been added to the programme following increasing demand for Scandinavia, while new resorts in US and Austria are also included.
The operator is also targeting the family market by reducing the minimum age for children staying in chalets and Club properties from 16 to 12 and in Club Hotels from 16 to three.
Prices lead in at £205 per person for seven nights’ self-catering in Andorra.
