ASA calls for airlines not to mislead customers
THE ADVERTISING Standards Authority is urging airlines to state departure and destination airports clearly to avoid misleading customers. Its advice follows past rulings against carriers which advertise city destinations without mentioning that clients will arrive at a lesser-known secondary airport some distance from the centre.
Ryanair has had several complaints upheld over the issue but has been adhering to the ASA’s rules since last summer. Meanwhile, the ASA has upheld a complaint by Portland Direct against Direct Holidays, which stated in an advertisement that it was the UK’s number one direct-sell company.
It also objected to a Cresta Holidays advertisement that claimed it was cheaper to book a Eurostar holiday to France direct rather than through a travel agent.
