Entrepreneurial: Terry Fisher
Corporate life tough on Terry
GOING Places managing director Terry Fisher has admitted to becoming frustrated and bogged down in corporate life at the multiple. He described his first 10 months in the hot seat as a “baptism of fire.”
Speaking on being an entrepreneur in a world ruled by the City, Fisher told the Institute of Travel and Tourism conference: “I did not know what I was letting myself in for and did not expect all the problems. There are lots of e-mails and unnecessary meetings. All we want to do is sell holidays. We [entrepreneurs] are independent at heart and we can get frustrated.”
But Fisher, who sold his Travelworld retail chain to Airtours in 1998, insisted he has no regrets about becoming Going Places managing director.
“No amount of money can stand in the way of ambition,” he told delegates in Las Vegas.
He added that by bringing entrepreneurs into the business, corporate firms are looking to react quicker in the marketplace. Fisher also stressed he had been given a “fairly free reign” at Going Places.
