Holiday Hypermarkets forced to pull advert

HOLIDAY Hypermarkets has been forced to withdraw a consumer advert after Trading Standards deemed it was misleading.

Trading Standards officers were called in by Bolton-based St Andrews Travel managing director Andrew Dickson to investigate the advert which claimed “all travel agents sell the same holidays”.

The advert appeared in local newspapers in the Manchester area.

“If you go to Lunn Poly and ask for information on cruises, you will get a few Thomson brochures. As an independent travel agent we have every kind of brochure on offer with 100 or more operators.

“To suggest that Holiday Hypermarkets gives the same width of choice and service as ourselves is a joke and an insult.”

Holiday Hypermarkets managing director John Donnelly said: “I run different adverts every week. Dickson should spend more time on running his business rather than having a pop at us.”

Bolton’s Trading Standards Office confirmed the statement in the advert had been changed and no more complaints had been received.
